An energy saving device which saved over £8,000 across Leeds last year can be borrowed from Holt Park Library.

Energy monitors, which clip to household electrical appliances and highlight which are consuming the most energy, can be loaned in the same way as a book from your local library.

People who used the scheme last year saved altogether across Leeds £8,775 on their household electricity bill. This equates to preventing 38,169 tonnes of CO2 entering the atmosphere.

Councillor Tom Murray, executive member of Leeds City Council’s environmental services, said: “Energy monitors allow us to see the amount we’re using and how much it’s costing us. People are often surprised at how much power appliances soak up when on standby, or when a charger is left idle but still connected after use.”

The loan period for the monitor lasts 3 weeks and as well as stating how much energy the appliance is wasting it also points out how much money the appliance is using.

“By making changes that save money, we’re also benefiting the environment by ultimately reducing the city’s carbon emissions. I’d highly recommend borrowing an energy monitor.” added Cllr Murray.

Take up this opportunity by visiting the library and don’t forget to share this news with others to help them save money and reduce Holt Park’s carbon footprint.
