Foodbank opens in Ireland Wood – Leeds LS16

March 23rd, 2015 · 1 Comment · Community News

Leeds-North-foodbankEveryday people in our community are going hungry. In Ireland Wood and Adel a team of Church leaders and volunteers have recognised that need and have opened an outlet of Leeds North Foodbank  at St Pauls Church, Ireland Wood

The aim is to give three days’ emergency food to people in crisis. Leeds North Foodbank has already fed more than 4,000 people since launching their first outlet in September 2013 in Moortown and the subsequent opening of a further 2 outlets in Horsforth and Woodhouse.
Vouchers for food are available through a range of places including health centres, children’s centres and school support workers or via the Welfare Rights team and Citizens Advice Bureau.

As well as providing food, volunteers will be able to listen and suggest where extra help and support may be available. Whatever their situation, beliefs or background everyone is welcome.

“Without the help and support of local churches, volunteers and the public, who’ve donated their time, food and money, we could never have opened this new Foodbank outlet” says Karen Burgon, Project Manager, Leeds North Foodbank.”

“We want to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved so far, if you would like to help in any way please do contact us for more information”

There will be a fundraising Spring Concert organised by The Singing Mums on March 28th at St Pauls Church from 3pm in support of the foodbank, everyone welcome.

I have lived in Ireland Wood/Cookridge all of my 65 years, and I never thought I would see a time when people in the area were going hungry. Well done to Mr D. Cameron and Mr N. Clegg, with a special mention to Mr I. Duncan-Smith. I’m sure every Conservative voter agrees with them that it is feckless to be out of work, and down right careless to be ill.
