Holt Park Active Living Centre Funding Cut

Holt Park’s multi-million pound Active Living Centre was dealt another blow this week when funding for the project was cut.
The government’s treasury department, as we reported in April, announced that the shelved, £30.6 million project could go ahead as the Private Finance Initiative (PFI) money was granted.

However, now just weeks from building work commencing, the Department of Health has told Leeds City Council that its PFI funding for the project has now been reduced to £28.9 million, leaving the Council to stump up the rest..

Cllr Lucinda Yeadon, executive board member for adult social care said: “I am very disappointed that the Government has changed its mind and reduced the amount of financial support we are receiving.

“I am writing to the Care Services Minister Paul Burstow to ask that the Government rethinks its plan.”

The Active Living Centre has been in the midst of turmoil since plans for the project were first announced. The project was shelved in June 2010, just 2 weeks before builders moved onto the site, as part of the new coalition governments spending review.

If you feel strongly about the constant revision of plans regarding the Active Living Centre then you can air your views and thoughts below
