Holt Park tennis courts have been earmarked as the possible next venue for the city’s community tennis project.
In a similar project to what takes place at Carr Manor High School and in the near future Chapel Allerton Park, Holt Park tennis courts would become part of the Community Tennis Project.
The project would work in partnership with the council’s Sport Development and Parks departments, Holt Park Leisure Centre and local schools. Also incorporated in the project would be Carnegie Tennis who would provide the coaching and utilise their coach scholarship scheme.
The project would most likely take place on a Saturday designed for people aged 8+. It would consist of coaching and social opportunities on the new courts at Holt Park. It would also help young coaches as an area in which they could practice their trade and benefit others in Holt Park.
Carnegie would be responsible for the delivery of the coaching on the courts and run the project as a non-profit scheme, with the only expenditure being equipment and coach costs.
With this in mind a proposed cost of between £2 – £4 per hour would need to be implemented.
Apart from this organised activity the courts would remain open and free to the public.
A decision on the Holt Park Community Tennis Project should have been reached by Spring 2011.
