To celebrate World Book Night from the BBC, one local resident is to give away free copies of their favourite book on the number 1 bus.

Becky Moore, from Holt Park, will hand out 48 copies of the novel Half of a Yellow Sun by Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie on Saturday 5th March.

As part of the BBC nationwide giveaway Becky will give passengers travelling from Leeds City Centre to Holt Park a copy of the book she loves.

She said: “When World Book Night advertised for volunteers to give away books, I noticed that one of the books was Half of a Yellow Sun. I read it a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it, so I thought I’d apply.”

The book is set in Nigeria during the bloody Nigeria-Biafra war and relates to issues of life and love during hostile times.

Becky said: “Other parts of the world are so intertwined with our colonial past and trade. Yet most British people know little of West Africa.”

Becky will be boarding the bus in the city centre at around 3pm to give away the freebie.

Hi, thanks for writing about this. It went really well, and we had some great conversations on the bus. I hope people enjoy reading the book, or pass it on to someone else.
And thanks Alan, didn’t see you on the bus though.
