Last night (26/02) saw more than 30 local residents turn out to see police crime commissioner Mark Burns-Williamson as guest speaker at a Holt Park  Tenants and Residents Association monthly meeting.

In a productive meeting the Police and Crime Commissioner explained his role in holding the Chief Constable to account, setting the policing budget and making communities in West Yorkshire safer and feel safer.

Mark took a wide range of questions from the audience including how he allocates the budget, how to apply for the Safer Communities Fund, how his role compares to that of the Police Authority and how West Yorkshire Police and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner are dealing with severe Government cuts.

Mark told the attendees that he spends over 50 per cent of his time out of the office visiting the community and said that the value of these meetings could not be overlooked.

Mark also spoke about the progress the Proceeds of Crime campaign is making after meeting with Policing Minister Damian Green earlier this week to discuss closing loopholes in the legislation. He also spoke about his Proceeds of Crime campaign to get more of the cash seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act back into West Yorkshire. Currently 50 per cent of POCA cash goes back to the Treasury.
