Pupils from Ralph Thoresby School have helped to create a West Yorkshire Playhouse theatre production.

The play has had the input and support of young people from across Leeds in developing the production for its upcoming shows.

Pupils from Holt Park’s Ralph Thoresby have written the music to accompany the play and will team up with other pupils from across Leeds to put together the final recordings.

In partnership with Interplay, a professional  arts company based in Armley, Leeds, Ralph Thoresby is helping to bring the production to life and benefit pupils from the school and across the city who have fallen out of education.

Interplay’s Tools for the Trade Alternative Education programme helps youngsters who aren’t engaging in mainstream education and encourages them to participate in learning through music production and film making.

Francis Hill Drama and Media teacher at Ralph Thoresby and Director of the project said:
“We have spent the last few months doing workshops in order to explore the play and develop our own interpretation. It has been brilliant fun and really exciting to see the students take on the creative demands of the script by employing their knowledge of theatre and whimsical imaginations in order to bring the text to life.”

The play entitled Gargantua, by award winning playwright Carl Grose, is a dark comedy about a giant baby on the loose in a city.

Gargantua will be shown at Ralph Thoresby School on the 10th -11th March and at the West Yorkshire Playhouse on 14th May.

For tickets to the Ralph Thoresby showing will be available on the door or you can purchase them now by visiting the school office or alternatively calling 0113 3368181.

It is great to see young people producing excellent material both in drama, arts, and music. For the residents of Holt Park both young and old this is a fantastic opportunity to acknowledge the talent that is on their doorstep. If this production doesnt appeal, then keep looking out for other productions. The recent show of Dracula Spectacula was brilliant. Apart from the great acting, it was so much fun to watch. You never know in 10 or 15 years some of these students could be the new James Mason, Tom Courtenay, Colin Firth, Helen Mirren or Helen Bonham-Carter.
