Clock-IconHolt Park residents are being asked to switch more than just their clocks this weekend.

West Yorkshire Fire Service have launched a safety campaign linked to remembering to switch the clocks back 1 hour before you go to bed this Saturday, 29th October.

The fire brigade are asking people to also take a moment to test their smoke alarms. 86% of homes have smoke alarms installed yet many of these do not work as they don’t contain a working battery.

They are hoping that if people take the simple steps needed to change the clocks then they will also carry out a few other simple acts to keep their home safe.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer Craig McIntosh said: “Everyone soon notices when a clock stops ticking, but it’s more difficult to be sure that your smoke alarm is still in working order. The only way to make sure is through regular testing.”

“We’re all looking forward to getting that extra hour of sleep as British Summer Time comes to an end. Knowing that your smoke alarm is in working order will help you sleep that little bit better.”
