Man injured after being attacked with his own walking stick in Cookridge

A man was attacked with his own walking stick after an altercation in Cookridge, Leeds.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was attacked with his own walking stick after an altercation in the Cookridge area of Leeds.

The assault happened at around 2pm this afternoon (Monday 7 September) in Tinshill Road near to the ‘Animal Planet’ shop, and followed a traffic dispute between the victim and two males, one with a silver or white push cycle. The 39-year-old victim received treatment for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

A 15 year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of assault and is currently in custody.

Detective Inspector Mark Atkinson, of Leeds District CID, said: “This was an assault on a man with a visible disability in which the very item he uses for support was used as a weapon against him.

We are aware of mobile phone footage of the aftermath of this incident being shared on social media and we would urge anyone with such footage or who witnessed the incident itself to please get in contact as a matter of urgency.
