Farsley Festival 2014

by Joel Beaumont
This bank holiday sees the return of Farsley Festival.

On Monday 26th May, Farsley Town Street will play host to a huge street party. Last year saw over 5000 people take to the street and 2014 is set to be even bigger and better, in celebration of the tenth year of Farsley Festival.

This year’s theme is designed to coincide with Yorkshire’s hosting of the Tour de France. Town Street will be closed to traffic for the “Tour da Farsley” where there will be something for everybody.

The festival will be opened at 1pm in spectacular style with a huge bike parade up the hill of Town Street to the sounds of Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 (Hovis theme tune). All those taking taking part will ride with a loaf under their arm.

There will be a variety of live music from the likes of Leeds City Stompers, Tom Attah, and Biscuithead and the Biscuit Badgers as well as many more local musicians.

On the day there will be activities for all ages including riding a Penny Farthing, painting with bike parts and “Pedal Powered” refreshments.

Everyone is welcome to come and take part in what is guaranteed to be a great day out celebrating heritage, family, community, Yorkshire and all things bicycle.
