Come & join the celebrations

April 26th, 2012 · No Comments · Events

Holt Park Entrance, TevezAfter two years in the making tomorrow (Friday 27th April) at 2pm marks the official opening of the Holt Park Entrance located opposite Cookridge Methodist Church.

Local Residents are invited to the official opening and Ribbon cutting session with local MP Greg Mullholand, and then back to Holt Park Leisure Centre for 2.30pm where a delicious buffet will be waiting for all to enjoy.

This Entrance project has seen seven local school children from Cookridge Primary school re-develop this plot little plot of land.

Our little team, better known as the Holt Park Seven, listed the animals who might live there, noted the different type of trees and spent a very rainy, windy and ultimately muddy afternoon planting bulbs of snowdrops and bluebells! To say we were got wet is a bit of an understatement! Class 9 worked with Chris Campbell, a community artist and developed some metal work animals that are now on display on the site and now it is ready for its official opening. We will be walking down from school to watch the cutting of the ribbon by our local MP, Greg Mulholland before having refreshments at the Leisure Centre. I will fill you in with more details this time next week!

Chris Campbell was also responsible for the design of the HOLT PARK entrance sign which you can see from the lovely new ‘Oak’ park bench. There is also a nice litter bin for you to put your litter and dog bags in.

Only in the last few days we have had an information notice placed into the site. This was also designed with the help of the young people from Cookridge Primary School, who went down to the site and undertook some research with regard to the types of birds, animals, and trees that exist in the Holt Park Estate. Thanks here goes to Linda Gorner from Leeds City Council for the wonderful information board.

So we welcome you to attend the ‘Grand Opening’ which will take place at 2pm on Friday, 27th April. Greg Mulholland MP has very kindly agreed to do the ribbon cutting, and then after everyone has had a quick opportunity to look at the Holt Park Entrance, there will be light refreshments from 2:30pm to 4pm back at the Activity Room, in the Holt Park Leisure Centre. All welcome.

Wether you are able to attend or just pleased to see more positive improvements in our local area please share this article using one of the buttons below to highlight yet more excellent work going on between the members of our local community
