Leeds Celebrates Chinese New Year 2013

Although much smaller to the likes of Manchester or London, Leeds’ Chinatown will be bustling with life this weekend in celebration of the year of the snake.

With over 4000 Chinese inhabitants in Leeds, Chinatown located on Lady Lane in Leeds City Centre is always busy.

It isn’t just in Chinatown where they’ll be celebrating the new year but across Leeds.

Leeds Town Hall is hosting a Chinese New Year spectacular with Chinese dancing, Tai Chi, Chinese craft stalls and professional face painting. The New Year festival will be held at the town hall from 10am onwards. Tickets cost £3.00 and can be bought from the box office. Call 0113 224 3801

If you don’t fancy heading out for Chinese New Year be sure to be careful as some believe that lighting a fire or using a knife that day is bad luck. So if it may be best to stick to chopsticks with you’re Chinese takeaway to keep away those evil spirits.
