Environmental Days Help Clean Up Holt Park

September 28th, 2010 · Uncategorized

By Joel Beaumont
The two environmental days held earlier this month in Holt Park were a great success.

Skips were placed throughout the Holtdales and Holt Farms and were filled to the brim as residents had the opportunity to get rid of any unwanted items.

Not only were the skips to remove rubbish and furniture present, but the Holt Park Tenants and Residents Association were on hand, with residents of Holt Park, to help clean up the area.

The residents took part in a variety of environmental projects on the 8th and 9th September such as litter picking and gardening work.

A great deal of effort was put in to help improve the local community areas.

Holt Park Couple’s Wedding Competition

September 9th, 2010 · Uncategorized

by Joel Beaumont
A couple from Holt Park have made it to the final of a radio wedding competition.

Adelle Claire Gill, 22 and her fiancee Alex McTiernan, 21, entered a competition to win a wedding on radio station Stray fm 97.2.

The husband and wife to be were on Wednesday morning, live on radio, told they had made it into the final.

Adelle and Alex will have to compete against 4 other couples for the chance to win a wedding with all expenses paid at the Crown Hotel in Harrogate.

In order to win the couple must secure the highest number of votes from the general public. Voting can take place online and in person, when the couple come round and appeal to the public in their local area.

The couple, who both attended Ralph Thoresby High School, entered the competition as their wedding budget has taken a hit. This is due to Alex having his working hours reduced due to blindness in one eye.

Adelle said: “without making it sound like an X Factor sob story, Alex is blind in one eye, hes had to cut his hours due to his eye, he works really hard but now only work a few hours a week he really wants the perfect wedding but we just cant afford it.”

However, the desire to win the competition and have a wedding in the immediate future is not just due to financial restraint.

Adelle’s father, Phil, has an AVM on his brain, a rare form of a brain aneurysm.

Adelle said: “My dad also has avm, this is like a time bomb with loads of small landmines round it waiting to burst. He is waiting for an op to remove it.”

“I really want him to be at my wedding,” she added.

Whichever couple gains the most votes will go through to the next round to compete in a final challenge.

Voting begins tomorrow morning, Friday 10th September, when the couple will be live on Stray fm.

To help make a local couples dream come true, not only listen to Stray fm 97.2 in the morning but look out for them on Friday when they will be out canvassing for votes in the Holt Park and Cookridge area.
