Ralph Thoresby School has received a state of the art piano through its involvement in a music foundation.

The E.M.I. Music Sound Foundation in association with Casio and its 30th anniversary created a “Piano’s for Schools” scheme and donated Casio pianos across the country. Ralph Thoresby who is part of the foundation was lucky enough to receive the gift just before the break for the Christmas holidays.

The piano, a Casio Celviano AP-420, is seen as the ideal training instrument for piano students. Headteacher at the school, Mr Hemingway, said: “I know our talented students will cherish the opportunity to develop their skills by playing on such a high-tech piano.”

Ralph Thoresby has been associated with the foundation since receiving the E.M.I. specialist status in 2003. The E.M.I. Music Sound Foundation is an independent music education charity, established in 1997 to celebrate the centenary of E.M.I. Records and to improve young peoples’ access to music education in the UK and Ireland.

It is hoped, by both parties, that this donation can be put to good use and benefit many youngsters in the world of music.

Brian Wilson, Ralph Thoresby Director of Arts said: “I am absolutely delighted to take receipt of this gift. It has arrived at the most opportune moment with numbers of students in music increasing, the popularity of learning piano skills has risen.”
